There are three big problems with the current state of premium Garmin watch faces:
1) Low-quality watch faces
The low cost threshold for many watch faces leads to a very low incentive for watch face developers to deliver their best work. Many developers resort to selling a wider quantity of watch faces over higher-quality ones. The result is watch faces that are cool for a few days but not versatile enough to be your watch face as your needs and preferences change.
We believe that a subscription model provides continuing incentive for us to continue building great watch faces — prioritizing quality over quantity.
2) Dead watch faces that don’t get updates
Because most other watch faces are one-time fees, there’s no continuing incentive for the watch face developer to keep updating the watch face. Their only incentive is to keep making new ones for you to buy - making them quick and cheap. That means the store is flooded with tons of low-effort watch faces that aren’t getting updates.
By setting up a subscription model, we’re fixing this model so that we’re incentivized to continue keeping your watch face up-to-date with Garmin’s latest features.
3) Requires commitment
Sometimes you just want to try a new watch face for a few days or weeks, but you end up having to pay for it forever. This means it’s more costly to try and explore new watch faces. Developers need to charge enough to make something after the credit card processing fees.
We believe that a low-cost subscription option allows customers to change their watch faces more often, which can be better. You only pay for the time you use the watch face.
Our philosophy on quality
Our research and development never stops. We are always bringing new capabilities to our watch faces, including support for Garmin’s latest features, clever new metrics to view, and performance improvements. We’re also always actively receiving your ideas and building them into our software.
All Luxelion watch faces share a common software engine. This high-performance engine allows us to invest deeply in the performance, battery life, and features of all our watch faces. Adding a new complication to this engine allows us to roll it out to all our watch faces at once.
Our subscription plans help us pay for the continuing research & development necessary to strengthen the Luxelion engine and improve the watch faces you already own. It supports our ability to listen to your product feedback and make it happen. And because you can cancel any time, you only pay for how long you actually use your watch face — whether it’s 3 months or 3 years.
