Garmin doesn't provide a way for developers to recognize that you're the same person from device-to-device, otherwise LuxeLion would have made it so that you could use the license on as many devices as you owned. To avoid making it possible for the same key to be shared across people, LuxeLion keys can only be used on one device at a time.
While Luxelion watch face licenses can only be used on one device at a time, you can transfer the license to another device at any time, as many times as you like, as frequently as you like. This process is easy and fully self-service.
How device locking works
When you enter a license key for the first time, LuxeLion will validate the license key and then lock that key to that specific watch.
If you enter that same key for another watch, the license will not work. That’s because LuxeLion will detect that the license key has been locked to a different watch.
Unlocking If you still have the prior device
If you still have the prior device, you can transfer the license yourself. Just remove the license key from the settings for that watch face, and make sure the watch face is running for a few minutes while connected to your phone with internet access. The watch will attempt to release the license from that device.
Steps to release the license lock:
- Go to the settings for the watch face
- Remove the value in the “License Key” field and press the “Save” button
- The watch face must be running and the watch must be connected to the internet for the unlock process to happen. If the watch face is not running on your watch, activate the watch face and let it run for a while. The watch faces needs to run for a little while (while connected by bluetooth to your phone) to be able to communicate with the licensing servers and release the lock.
- Check the settings page again in a few seconds to confirm that the license has been unlocked. This process could take a few minutes, so please keep the watch face running while it attempts to connect to the licensing server and check again later.
- Once you see the “License Status” switch from saying “Licensed,” you can begin using that key on a different device
Before the lock has been released, you’ll see that the “License Status” still says you are “Licensed.” If you see this message, the unlocking has not yet happened.
You’ll know that the license lock was released successfully if you check again later and see that the “License Status” field now says “Trial expired.”
If you no longer have the prior device (or the above method doesn’t work)
If you no longer have the device (or the method above doesn’t work), please visit the “Contact” page and submit a request. We’ll perform a manual unlock for you. This manual process could take up to 72 hours — thank you for your patience!
